Time Management

Time management plays a vital role in every organization. Unclear objectives, disorganization and inability to say no are obstacles of time management. Frequent interruptions and periods of inactivity are some more obstacles for effective time management. How can we overcome this?

Time Management
  • Recognize and identify the obstacles, employ strategies to overcome this, set goals based on specification that are measurable, achievable and realistic, should be time based and prioritized.
  • Complete the activities on time, delegate things, address the urgent? Accomplish what you can do early and attach deadlines to things that take time.
  • Learn when to say “no”. We cannot do everything, do not take things that you cannot complete, remaining consistent to our goals.
  • Use the waiting time and concentrate on the task at hand, focusing on our goals, tuning out interruptions.
  • Overcome stress and procrastination. Failing to plan is planning to fail. Plan each day and every week.
  • Put up a "Do not disturb" sign when you absolutely have to get work done.

Practice the following techniques to become the master of your own time:

  • Take five minutes before every call and task to decide what result you want to attain. This will help you know what success looks like before you start. And it will also slow time down.
  • Take five minutes after each call and activity to determine whether your desired result was achieved. If not, what was missing? How do you put what's missing in your next call or activity?
  • Carry a schedule and record all your thoughts, conversations and activities for a week. Schedule when they will begin and end. Have the discipline to keep these appointments
  • Take the first 30 minutes of every day to plan your day. Don't start your day until you complete your time plan. The most important time of your day is the time you schedule to schedule time.
  • Any activity or conversation that's important to your success should have a time assigned to it. To-do lists get longer and longer to the point where they're unworkable. Appointment books work. Schedule appointments with yourself and create time blocks for high-priority thoughts, conversations, and actions.

Managing time makes a person successful and makes the person happy too. Focus on one thing first and rest will follow automatically. Find your creative time or thinking time. There is famous saying “Stitch in time saves nine” and when people follow it everything goes well.
