Today’s plants have a variety of real time systems - PLC, DCS, SCADA software, Vibration Analysis, Bar Coding devices, Hand held data collectors – used for Operations and Maintenance of assets. With IT systems becoming a single entity across the organization, it become imperative that the “board room” is no longer isolated from the real time information that comes from these process automation systems. The non-integration also drastically undermines the system’s potential performance and thus, its contribution to the bottom-line.

More often than not, various vendors supply the various components of the plant automation systems. Integrating all these systems and getting the data out to the ERP system is a logistical nightmare for the CIOs. The need of the hour is to have a robust and scalable interface, which can import and export data from a variety of real time databases into multiple business modules, thereby avoiding manual entry of critical data from the process automation systems.

Ramco “Real Time Integrator”(RTI)

Ramco “Real Time Integrator” is a middle-ware capable of interfacing the Ramco Enterprise Suite with a host of industry standard real time systems. Unlike similar such interfaces available in the market, Ramco RTI is compatible with a variety of popular PLC, DCS models as well as other PC based Real time database systems. RTI acts as the interface gateway between multiple business functions like Operations, Maintenance, Inventory, Quality Control and multiple real time systems.

Components of the RTI

  • A Generic Process Interface can interface RTI to a variety of DCS/PLC. There is a Hardware Interface Layer which varies depending on the DCS/PLC/SCADA. This acquires data at Real-Time from the Process Control systems
  • A Configurator and View mode in which all parameters can be defined and system configured for collection. Along with it a View mode is offered to analyze the data collected.
  • Data Manager is the component, which controls the overall operations of deciding when to obtain what data at what frequency and manages all the aspects of data handling.
  • A Process Scheduler and Data Dispatcher relieves the load on Data Manager in scheduling the data to be collected and dispatched to respective modules
