Shyamala heads Ramco’s ERP Strategic Business Unit (SBU). She is responsible for product innovation, project implementation and customer support for the entire ERP business. She comes with a rich 26-year experience, which includes 18+ years of research and development (R&D) in areas like Web Application Architecture, Service-Oriented Architecture, Component-based Development, Model-driven Architecture and Software Engineering. As a culmination of the R&D efforts, Shyamala and other members of Ramco’s R&D group have filed several patents in US and Europe.
After completing her B.E. from Madras University, Shyamala did a short stint at PSI Data Systems, Bengaluru, after which she joined Ramco in 1991. She fondly remembers Ramco as it was when she joined. A 60-person company in a small office on Mount Road, near the British Council. Right from the beginning, it was very obvious to her that the company’s objective was to emerge as a ‘product’ company rather than become yet another IT services company.
During the initial years, Shyamala was part of many key development teams, and in 1994, when Ramco decided to create a separate Technology Group to handle R&D on technology and tools, she was asked to lead one of the reusable component groups (RCG). From 2006-11, Shyamala headed the Technology department and was responsible for the company’s technology initiatives, and for Ramco VirtualWorks. In January 2012, she took over as Product Head of the Ramco ERP on Cloud product, which offered her valuable learning and more successes. She soon became head of the ERP SBU.
When she looks back at her career at Ramco, she feels fortunate to have joined the company at a nascent stage and seen the company through the various stages of its growth. “We started with a great vision and have been steadfast in the pursuit of that vision. In the words of Dr. Abdul Kalam, ‘You have to dream before your dreams can come true’,” she says.
